Vangelis Sakkalis

Vangelis holds a Research Director position in the Institute of Computer Science – Foundation for Research and Technology (ICS - FORTH). He is the Head of the Computational Neuroscience group and the Head of Multiscale Cancer Modelling group at the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory. His research interests fall in the broader area of Computational Medicine and Biomedical Engineering. In 2020, he co-founded 'traqbeat', a medtech startup developing a novel adaptable wearable health tracking device, including quantitative health risk assessment methods and tools focusing on the wider area of medical sensing, in which he is currently serving as CEO. Non-clinical applications include Emergency Medicine and Defence. Vangelis received his PhD in Electronic and Computer Engineering after completing his Master's degree at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, UK. He is highly interested in translating academic research to innovative growth.
